In Canada, cannabis was first banned in 1923. Seventy eight years later, cannabis was legalized for medical use.

Cannabis farmers in Canada are licensed by Health Canada under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR). There are currently 69 issued production licenses spread throughout the provinces. Ontario currently contains the bulk of the licenses, carrying 39 (over 50%) of the growing certificates.

Marc-Boris St Maaurice founded the Canadian Marijuana Party and served from 2000-2004 before joining the Liberal Party Of Canada.

“I believe that if any party will ever legalize marijuana in Canada, it is the Liberals,” stated St-Maurice.
